Uttarakhand offers several different holidays: a riverside stay in Rishikesh, hill walks in Mussoorie, lake time in Nainital, or a wildlife-focused trip near Corbett. This guide helps you choose a realistic route, season and trip length, including car and bike journeys from Delhi.

Uttarakhand Tour Packages for Mountains, Lakes and Riverside Escapes | Moon Garden Tour

A trip to Uttarakhand does not have to be a race into the mountains. You might want a peaceful evening beside the Ganga in Rishikesh, a walk through Mussoorie’s bazaars, or a few unhurried days around Nainital’s lake. Each needs a different route and pace.

Before comparing Uttarakhand tour packages, decide which experience you want. Rishikesh and Mussoorie make one practical Garhwal-side holiday. Nainital and Bhimtal make a Kumaon-side holiday. Corbett can be planned as a separate nature trip or an extension, subject to safari availability.

Where should you go, and why?

Destination What makes it appealing Particularly suited to
Rishikesh Riverside setting, yoga, evening aarti and seasonal adventure activities Couples, friends, international visitors, active groups
Mussoorie Hill views, Mall Road and walks around Landour Families, couples, short breaks
Nainital Lake setting, Mall Road and a compact hill-town stay Families and first-time hill visitors
Bhimtal A quieter lake-area base Couples and travellers seeking a slower pace
Corbett area Forest landscape and organised safari possibilities Wildlife-focused families and groups

A safari or rafting session should be treated as an optional, separately confirmed activity. Availability depends on season, conditions, permits and the operator; wildlife sightings cannot be guaranteed.

When should you visit? What is the weather like?

March to June is popular for hill breaks. Autumn can suit sightseeing and town walks. Winter brings colder conditions in Mussoorie and Nainital; pack layers and confirm road and activity access for the exact dates. Snow should never be guaranteed in an itinerary.

July to September can bring heavy rain. Keep hill-road plans flexible and check the current forecast and official travel advisories shortly before departure. For Rishikesh, rafting operates in a season rather than year-round; confirm whether it is running on your chosen date.

Delhi to Uttarakhand by car or bike

Delhi is a convenient starting point for Delhi NCR residents and many international travellers connecting onward. These are approximate planning routes, not live navigation instructions.

Destination Approximate road distance from Delhi Main route corridor
Rishikesh Around 230–260 km Delhi → Meerut → Muzaffarnagar → Roorkee → Haridwar → Rishikesh
Mussoorie Around 280–320 km Delhi → Meerut → Muzaffarnagar → Saharanpur/Dehradun direction → Dehradun → Mussoorie
Nainital Around 300–340 km Delhi → Ghaziabad → Hapur → Gajraula → Moradabad → Rampur/Rudrapur → Haldwani → Kathgodam → Nainital
Corbett/Ramnagar Around 250–300 km Delhi → Hapur → Gajraula → Moradabad → Kashipur → Ramnagar

The chosen road, bypass, pickup address and hotel will change the final kilometres. Rishikesh–Mussoorie and Nainital–Bhimtal are different local circuits; do not assume every Uttarakhand destination belongs in the same short driving loop.

Your own car: Check servicing, tyres, brakes and parking at the hotel. Aim to reach the hill section in daylight. Leave time for breaks and do not pack sightseeing into the end of a tiring arrival day.

Bike: Secure luggage, check lights and brakes, wear protective gear and carry a rain and warm layer. Set a daily distance that suits the rider, especially when rain, fog or city traffic is likely. Check road conditions before entering the hills rather than relying on a route saved weeks earlier.

For an office group: Confirm vehicle capacity, luggage space, pickup points, daily driver hours, parking and the activity choices everyone has agreed to.

Train and flight options

For Rishikesh and Mussoorie, compare rail travel to the appropriate Haridwar, Rishikesh or Dehradun station with the onward road journey. Dehradun’s Jolly Grant Airport is another possible gateway; check flight schedules and the transfer to your actual hotel.

For Nainital, Kathgodam is a useful railway station, followed by a road transfer. Uttarakhand Tourism places it about 23 km from Nainital and identifies Pantnagar as an airport approach. Check the transfer time as well as the flight or train price.

An international visitor arriving in Delhi should leave enough time for immigration, baggage and a separate onward journey. A late flight arrival followed by an immediate long hill drive rarely makes for a comfortable first day.

One day, two days, three days or one week

These examples begin after you reach Uttarakhand.

  • One day: Stay in one place. In Rishikesh, enjoy the riverside and an evening aarti. In Nainital, take a lakeside walk and explore Mall Road. This is not a complete Delhi–Uttarakhand return trip.
  • Two days: Choose Rishikesh or Mussoorie as one base. Leave a full day for local exploration rather than changing hotels overnight.
  • Three days: A practical Garhwal-side plan is Rishikesh plus Mussoorie, with the transfer treated as part of a day. A Kumaon alternative is Nainital plus Bhimtal.
  • One week: Choose one side of the state. Spend more time around Rishikesh–Mussoorie–Dhanaulti, or build a Nainital–Bhimtal–Corbett holiday with a separately confirmed safari. Allow a flexible day for weather and rest.

Char Dham is a separate journey. It needs a route designed around pilgrimage travel, current access and official registration. Do not add Kedarnath or Badrinath as a casual excursion to a three-day Mussoorie package. Confirm the applicable registration and travel requirements on the official Uttarakhand Tourist Care portal before booking.

Local food, markets and purchases

Ask for regional dishes such as kafuli, phaanu or jhangora kheer where they are freshly prepared. Availability varies by town and restaurant; a hotel menu in a tourist centre may have few local choices.

Shopping is easiest to enjoy during an evening walk:

  • Mussoorie: Mall Road connects the Kulri Bazaar and Library Chowk ends of town; Landour Bazaar is another area to explore.
  • Nainital: Walk along Mall Road, between the Mallital and Tallital sides, and compare shops without rushing a sightseeing transfer.
  • Local purchases: Look for regional craftwork and practical woollens. Ask about materials and where an item was made, especially if it is sold as handmade.

If buying food or sweets for a long journey, check packaging and shelf life before carrying them home.

Hotel examples and the right fit for your group

Government tourism accommodation examples include GMVN Rishikesh Ganga Resort, GMVN Hotel Garhwal Terrace in Mussoorie, KMVN TRH Sukhatal in Nainital and KMVN Sarovar Bliss TRH in Bhimtal. These are examples to compare, not confirmed Moon Garden Tour partner hotels or package inclusions. Check their current room options, availability, parking, accessibility, meals and cancellation terms.

Families may value one comfortable base and short local transfers. Couples may prefer fewer scheduled activities and more time around the lake or hills. Office groups should settle room sharing and the balance between activities and free time before selecting a package.
